Job Search January Challenge #9
“The way to gain a good reputation is to endeavor to be what you desire to appear.”
Socrates
Remember, when you are in the job market, you are selling yourself. Make sure your product (you) is polished and ready to promote in any situation. Present your professional self, your best character, when you are about town, networking, in your cover letter, resume, with friends, and online. Give yourself good curb appeal.
Challenge #9: Display your brand consistently
Just as you should keep your cover letter and resume language positive, showing your best sides, behave publicly in a positive manner that reflects you as an ideal job candidate. This doesn’t mean you can’t have fun! But be sure you behave as if your future employer is watching, because she might be.
Clean up your online profiles as well. If you’ve been tagged in photos drinking or in other unprofessional situations, simply un-tag yourself. Make sure you haven’t posted regrettable status updates and go back and delete any you posted previously. Employers do more and more social network research, so google yourself and make sure your online brand is polished, too.
You never know when a key professional contact is nearby. This can be seen as a blessing, as if everyone you meet could lead you to your next position. Display your brand in a consistent and positive manner so that you are ready for any opportunity.
When your house is on the market, you want it took be ready to show at a moment’s notice. YOU are on the market, so keep your appearance tidy and your behavior, too!
