I thought my life would feel more meaningful

Every week I get a call from someone new who says:

“I thought my life would feel more meaningful.”

“I’ve tasted a life filled with courage, spark, and creativity. I miss it.”

“I have a growing sensation that I’m not in the right career field.”

“I’m burned out. Where’s the zest I used to have for everything, including work?”

“The career path I worked so hard for now leaves me empty.”

These statements are often followed closely by something like this:

“I should be happy with what I have.”

“I went to school to do this, I’d be crazy to change course now. Why can’t I just be satisfied with it?”

“It’s selfish or indulgent to want more.”

“I used to be fully engaged. Maybe I’m just damaged goods.”

“It’s probably too late to find my calling.”

Whether you’re young or old, work or don’t, ever felt fire in your belly or always felt like you missed the calling boat (like I once felt), I want to assure you:

You are called.

Your calling may be trying to reach you through those niggling sensations that something is missing. Or through the lost sense of vitality, creativity, focus, or engagement. It may be calling through physical discomfort or burnout. Or through painful turns of events.

Your calling might be guiding you through passions, dreams, art, precious memories, or dozens of other portals.

You can invoke calls through spending time in nature, going on quests or pilgrimages, by working with skilled guides like coaches.

There are plenty of reasons to say NO to calls.

As any fan of The Hobbit knows, we tend to turn down our calls at least once. But your bosses, families and friends, fears, and even programming might shut down your calls before you even realize it.

Don’t worry, they’ll keep calling.

It’s not too late. You’re not too old. It’s not selfish or indulgent to listen for calls.

Or to answer them.

Not sure how? I can help. Feel free to phone me so we can chat about whatever’s calling you. That’s my favorite kind of call. Or download this free guide, 5 PATHS TO FINDING YOUR PURPOSE, to get started.
