The Rainmaker informational interview is a friendly and engaging conversation. You’ll speak with a Rainmaker coach and alchemist (aren’t all good writers alchemists?), who will lead you in a target/strategy session, listen deeply to your goals and experience, and gather the information needed to craft a resume that reflects your deepest calling and highlights your superpowers—without the hyperbole.
To Prepare
This is not a job interview, so there’s no need to prepare your answers or feel at all nervous.
If you do feel nervous or tend to freeze up, don’t worry. We’ll help. We’re skilled coaches who can help relieve stress and put you at ease. By the end of the call, most clients are even more excited about their job search and confident about what kind of information we, and your target employers, will need to know.
It will be helpful if you can create a quiet space with no distractions and a clear phone signal.
Your Career Target
We’ll need at least one target position from you in order to craft your resume. Our interview will be most fruitful if you’ve got a specific target in mind. If you haven’t found one yet, I encourage you to do some searching. Ideally, you’ll find a job description that feels like it was written for you. You might recognize it by your level of excitement, lowered stress (even if you’ve got questions or concerns), and meeting many or most of the required qualifications.
If you can’t find a job that’s currently open in your area, for our purposes it might be helpful to either write out your ideal job description or find a position that’s been closed or in another location to use as a placeholder target.
If you’ve got several targets, fabulous! We’ll probably want to narrow it down to one target at a time so that your documents are crystal clear. It might make sense to craft different documents for each target. No worries, we can discuss all of this during the call and make arrangements to craft additional documents at a reduced rate, if that’s what you choose, once we’ve got your first project just right.
If you’re really stumped about your next target, you might want to consider some career coaching. Please let me know. I can help with that.
And again, please remember, this is a warm and engaging process. It can even be fun! Please let us know your concerns, so we can support you.
After the Interview – Fill in the Rest of the Questionnaire & Upload Your Documents
Right after the call, your coach will email you the questionnaire, so you can finish filling it in and add any details that you weren’t able to cover during the informational interview.
Remember to send your former resume to jennifer@rainmakerresume.com before your informational interview. This will help us to have a reference for the details we’ll discuss.
If you get stuck or have questions, please feel free to contact Jennifer at any time at 406.546.8244 or Jennifer@rainmakerresume.com
