Right now, you’re in work survival mode. You tell yourself you should be content to have any job, that it should be good enough, especially right now, when the pandemic is changing the way we work and so many companies are reorganizing, if they haven’t already.
You justify staying: benefits, paycheck, security, you’ve still got weekends.
Is this you?
Can’t imagine life beyond survival mode.
You’re wearing one hat at work, then putting that in a box and trying to be your whole self at home. But compartmentalizing is taking a toll.
And you’re too overwhelmed to imagine taking more projects on at work to advance there or taking on a whole new job search, much less exploring the idea of aspiring for career fulfillment.
For all the effort you’re making, you want to feel valued, to feel your work is meaningful.
Most people spend more than 1/3 of their lives (research says it’s generally 35% – that’s about 90,000 hours) at work.
You shouldn’t have to spend the bulk of your life just surviving.
If you can relate to any of the above, I wrote this for you.
I believe in you. I’ve seen too many people go from work survival to career fulfillment to let you continue down this road alone.
You were meant for more.
What if there were a position that was a great fit for your particular genius? Imagine there’s an employer out there who would be grateful to work with you. What if you could find your people?
All those things are possible.
You can feel more fulfilled in your work.
You can make subtle changes to increase your perceived value. And you can begin to attract more fulfilling opportunities. All without changing anything about your current circumstances until you feel energized and inspired to do so.
Upgrade your career to improve your whole life plan.
To do that, it takes remembering that more is possible, first and foremost.
But you’ve been in survival mode, so you might need to be VERY gentle with yourself. You can make tiny shifts in your daily life WITHOUT changing anything external.
Here’s what I suggest for you.
Step 1. It’s not WORK MORE. Rather, change your mind to change everything. The shift happens internally, first. Simply (but not easily, if you’ve been struggling for awhile) open your mind to possibility. Then, learn to trust possibility, again.
Even if you stopped after Step 1, things would begin to change. For real. So take your time with this one.
Step 2. Shift the way you see yourself. This will begin to shift the way others see you, at first passively, like magic.
Step 3. Redefine your personal brand. Let your truer personal brand cultivate connections and opportunities to find more meaningful, fulfilling work.
Meaningful, fulfilling work means a meaningful, fulfilled life.
You can go from survival mode, living for the weekends, telling yourself you should be content with more than 1/3 of your life spent living for the weekends.
.. To a shift in the way you think and feel in your life
… To moving through all your days with meaning, more sense of wholeness rather than a work persona hanging on until the weekends when you can be the “real” you.
It all starts by imagining the possibility.
Don’t live your life in survival mode.
You’re meant for meaning, weekdays as well as weekends.
