Rainmaker Resumes Client Guide Overview

Hello, Rainmaker! This page of your Client Guide is an overview of our process. You’re invited to take a look now, so you know what to expect from us and what we’ll need from you. Then refer to it throughout your Rainmaker Resumes process as needed.

What to Expect

We at Rainmaker Resumes want to make sure we guide you and provide you all the information you need to feel comfortable along the way, so here’s an overview of the whole process, start to finish.

We know this page is long, but please review it carefully so that we’re all on the same page—this list includes the steps of our process, general timelines, and what you can expect. If it seems you’re not receiving something you should, especially notifications via our file sharing application once you’ve created your client profile, please let us know right away. We will fix it quickly.

Don’t worry, we’ll send shorter emails that cover each step as it comes. You can use this overview as a look ahead and a one stop reference.

Let’s review what you can expect with this process.

1. Informational Interview

First, you’ll get a chance to speak with Jennifer or your designated Rainmaker writer (we like to think a resume writer is equal parts coach and alchemist), who will lead you in a target/strategy session, listen deeply to your goals and experience, and gather the information needed to craft a resume that reflects your deepest calling and highlights your superpowers—without the hyperbole.

You likely scheduled your informational interview either at same time you signed up and paid or via direct email with your Rainmaker coach. If you haven’t scheduled yet, please reach out.

Remember to send your former resume to team@rainmakerresume.com before your informational interview. Or you can send it to your coach at their dedicated rainmaker email: theirfirstname@rainmakerresume.com.

This will help us—and you—get the most from our hour together. Here is how to prepare for informational interview.

2. Fill in the Rest of the Questionnaire

Next, you’ll spend some time—but no more than a couple of hours—finishing the questionnaire we started with you over the phone during the informational interview. It’s important to be thorough and provide the most relevant and specific information you can, keeping in mind your target job as much as possible. The more targeted information you can provide us, the more gets reflected back to you in the draft we return to you, and, ultimately, to your target employer. Please upload your documents within 1 week of our call.

3. Create Your File Sharing Profile & Upload Your Documents

When you’re finished with the questionnaire, it will be time to create your file sharing profile online and then upload your documents.
Click here to start your profile or copy and paste this web address into your browser:  https://rainmaker.submittable.com/submit/6be21b23-b0a7-4579-8308-cecb5708cf9b. There, you’ll fill in the form as prompted. Below are more detailed instructions to guide you in filling out the form if you need a little help:

Once you’ve logged back in, simply look to the right of the page that the link opens. You’ll see an upload icon, a small arrow. Click on it to upload.

NOTE: Please be sure to follow the above links to access your profile, rather than set up a new one.

Please upload your documents within 1 week of our call.

4. Team Rainmaker Goes to Work

Once we receive your documents—we’ll need your former resume & completed questionnaire before we begin—we start the writing process. Your primary writer will craft an unofficial draft for peer review, then revise, and upload an official draft for your review. Owner Jennifer Shryock supports the writing process along the way, and we’ve found that our team process creates fresher and better work together than could ever be created alone.

The Rainmaker writing process

5. Official Draft to You

Your first draft comes to you on or before our agreed due date – usually about two weeks from the informational interview, but it depends on how far we are booked out and when you upload your documents.

The Rainmaker Team truly believes in collaboration, and that means this draft really is just a draft. We hope we’ve gotten it right the first time around, and we often do! But we use this draft to prompt further thinking and additional information from you.

Note to Mac Users: We use Microsoft Word for our resumes because they can be used in applicant tracking systems and the .pages format is generally not accepted with these systems. We can provide you with a final pdf and the final editable Word document. It will be up to you to modify your document to match formatting if you want a .pages version.

6. Revision Process

We’ll ask you to review your drafts carefully and then turn in your revisions, additions, and comments to us. We’ll respond to your revisions and let you know when you can expect a second official draft from us. It’s usually about a one day turnaround.

Up to two revisions are included with every document. We expect responses to our drafts within 1 week. If we do not hear back from you within that time, we will consider the drafts approved. If you cannot address the revisions within that timeframe, please email us immediately.

If you received a LinkedIn Profile draft in Word to review and you do not respond within our week turnaround, you will be responsible for completing the project including entering the new copy into LinkedIn.

As with most writing projects, final proofing is your responsibility. Your draft has been reviewed twice by Team Rainmaker, but this does not necessarily mean that it is 100% correct. We may not have detected an error. The more eyes on your documents, the better.

For some great techniques on how to proofread effectively, go to: https://jennifershryock.com/2017/01/resume-proofreading-tips/

If you OK the proof, and errors are later discovered, it will be your responsibility. We will absolutely correct our own errors without charge provided they are noted within your two given revisions.
